Livin A Live – Track 3: “She’s Tuff”

she's tuff

“She’s Tuff” has been a personal Riccardo’s favourite since he listened to the tune played by The Fabulous Thunderbirds in their “Portfolio” greatest hits album.

That laugh at the end of the verse caught him and made him think “How cool do you have to be, to write a song with some laughing in it?” and after some research he found out it was a Jerry “Boogie” McCain’s song.

A laid back groove, but still biting and hitting you, with wonderful lyrics about the best woman you can meet (after all she’s so tough to stop a World War) is Blues as it gets and on stage it happens often that the band streches the song to get the audience in or kicking some dynamics on this song (check Riccardo Grosso Blues Band live video concert in Warsaw to see this happening…).

So here we are with the third song of the “Livin A-Live” album: “She’s Tough” as the original title spells or “She’s Tuff” you like it better…

All was going pretty good, until…

…covid 19 stroke us.

We all been hit hard by this pandemic virus they introduced us to, in the last weeks. It’s been under the radar, nobody expected it and no one could predict it would be hit us so hard as human race in general.

While we are all together on this boat over this deep and rough sea, we are among the lucky ones who were not infected until the time I’m writing.

Anyway is with sadness in our heart that we have to communicate some bad news about our calendar and some not so bad.

Right now we are announcing that 6th Austrian Bluesharp Festival, where we were expected as headliner of the final show on April 18th 2020 has been cancelled due to Austrian (and Italian) regulation to fight this Covid-19 emergency. And while the virus waves is hitting Europe we can say our show at Home Rock Bar in Italy for April 9th is cancelled as well and our show in Novigrad, Croatia, for April 17th at 9-pub has been post-poned in August.

You’d better check the calendar page for news and update, so you can re-plan your moves and come to say hello at the nearest confirmed show…stay tuned because we have the feeling we’ll have to tell you more in the near future…

Just Announced: Blues Badger 2020!

Living A Live – Track 2: “Double Trouble”

double trouble

“Double Trouble” is a tune by the great Otis Rush who was a guitar master mostly overlooked.

His influences with his hit published by Cobra Records set the “West Side” sound: richful, powerful and borderline, if you want. But man if it was wild!

“I Can’t Quit You, Baby” written by Willie Dixon or  “All Your Love (I Miss Loving)” and of course “Double Trouble”.

With an aggressive, attacking playing style highlighted by piercing, stinging runs of single notes, Rush was not only defining his own sound, but that of an entire generation as well. Talents like Magic Sam, Buddy Guy and Freddie King soon followed, and all came from a similar mold.

Rush would later record for Chess Records and more than a half-dozen other labels during a career that’s notable not just for its originality and influence (read: Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor and Stevie Ray Vaughan), but also its trials and tribulations: Rush has struggled to peacefully co-exist with the business aspects of the music industry, at one point going more than 15 years between studio albums. And by his own admission, he spent many a day battling the bottle but his name and reputation remain intact.

Here it is our version of the classic song “Double Trouble” from our new streaming album “Living A-Live” and we really hope you like it.
